The work, step by step
Here are the steps that come up, depending on the job:
- Excavate the driveway footprint, remove vegetation and soft soil, and compact the subgrade uniformly.
- Spread and compact a crushed-stone base, with its depth adjusted for site and soil conditions.
- Set and stake forms to the driveway’s planned dimensions, thickness, and drainage slope away from the house and garage.
- Place wire mesh or rebar on chairs or blocks so the reinforcement is supported within the slab rather than resting on the base.
- Place concrete evenly into the forms and screed it level to the required driveway thickness.
- Bull-float the surface, then apply a broom texture after bleed water has dissipated.
